Myrrh Essential Oil (Cymbopogon flexuosus)
Myrrh essential oil
has a rich, smoky, balsamic aroma that is purifying, restorative, revitalizing,
and uplifting. It is a helpful aid to meditation, having one of the highest
levels of sesquiterpenes available. Sesquiterpenes are a class of compounds that
have a direct effect on the hypothalamus, pituitary, and amygdala, the seat of our emotions.
Myrrh is referenced throughout the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. The Arabian people used it for wrinkled, chapped, and cracked skin.
Today myrrh is widely used in oral hygiene products. *

Prostate Problems
"My dad has had some prostate problems recently and so we looked in our
Essential Oils Desk Reference (EODR) to see what oils we might use for it. It
recommended 'Mister' along with myrrh and frankincense. Since we had myrrh my
dad started using it. After a couple days he informed us that he could tell the
myrrh was making a difference and to let people know that it works. (He diluted
it 50/50 with V-6)."
Ringworm
"I had picked up a case of ringworm at a beach bathroom out on Cape Cod. Later
that month, making my annual trip to the dermatologist, I showed her the round
itchy patches on my inner thigh. She did not identify the ringworm at that time,
but after I got home, I started doing some reading, and realized that's what it
had to be.
By that time the patches had grown quite scaly and itched like crazy. I began
applying myrrh oil several times a day, which soothed the itching, but didn't
immediately make the patches subside. I knew that myrrh is anti-fungal, so I
persisted, and after a week or so I began to notice a difference. Finally, after
about 3 weeks, the patches were gone and have not reappeared. I now make it a
habit to shower as soon as I get home from the beach!!"
