Hiccups after Surgery gone "My Dad had surgery to repair a
tropical ulcer on his shin. It was very deep and ugly looking, we could see the
bone. The next day he developed a clot under the surgery site and it had to be
virtually re-done, including skin and tissue grafts. He was very poorly after 2
lots of major surgery, anesthetics, antibiotics, pain killers etc.
Then he developed hiccups, which were more like violent spasms of the diaphragm,
than 'ordinary' hiccups. The Dr. said this can happen after surgery and
prescribed every imaginable remedy, including injections of anti-spasmodic. Dad
could not sleep or eat, if he attempted to eat, he would vomit. After 2 weeks of
this we were shocked at how much he had deteriorated and feared for his life. We
were fairly new to the oils then and not sure what to use.
To cut a long story short, it was suggested that Tarragon might help. A few
drops were rubbed on the only patch on his foot not covered by bandages and he
stopped hiccupping within a few minutes ! He slept soundly for many hours. When
he woke the hiccups started again but one more lot of oil on his foot and the
hiccups stopped again and did not return. From then on Dad began to recover and
could eat and sleep again. Because of the set back, Dad was a long time
regaining his strength but we are so thankful for the oils which literally saved
his life. We now think oils first !"
