Thieves® Essential Oil Blend and Thieves® Product Line
Young Living’s Thieves essential oil blend was created based on the historical
tale of four thieves in France who protected themselves from the black plague
with cloves, rosemary, and other aromatics while robbing victims of the killer
disease. When captured, they were offered a lighter sentence in exchange for
their secret recipe. In modern days, these same herbs and essential oils have
been found to be an effective barrier against topical and airborne
microorganisms.
Young Living’s proprietary Thieves oil blend includes the following Essential Oils and has been specially blended to offer the same kind of defense as it did in the fifteenth century. Thieves has been university tested and found to be highly effective in supporting the immune system and good health.*
Clove (Syzygium aromaticum), is anti-bacterial, a strong
antiseptic and an immune stimulant. Lemon (Citrus limon), is an anti-septic and is a great support
for the respiratory system Cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum), anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory
and anti-infectious. It also is great for purifying. Eucalyptus radiata has a strong effect on the respiratory
system and has anti-catarrhal effects. Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis CT 1,8 cineol) helps improve
the circulation. It is also antiseptic and helps to stimulate the nervous
system.
Research
In studies conducted at Weber State University showed it to have a
99.96% success rate against airborne bacteria. The bacteria cultures were
sprayed in an enclosed area, and Thieves oil blend was diffused for a given
amount of time.
Compounds from Clove Essential Oil
inhibit growth of oral pathogens Streptococcus mutans, Actinomyces viscosus,
Potphyromonas gingivalis, and Prevotella intermedia.
According to Jean Valnet, MD, the vaporized essence of
Lemon Essential Oil can kill
meningococcus in 15 minutes, typhoid bacilli in one hour, Staphylococcus aureus
in two hours, and Pneumococcus (Streptococcus pneumoniae) within three hours.
Even a 0.2% solution of lemon oil can kill diphtheria in 20 minutes and
inactivate tuberculosis.
Cinnamon Bark Essential Oil
vapor showed inhibitory effect against respiratory tract pathogens Haemophilus
influenzae, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes and Staphylococcus
aureus, including some penicillin-resistant strains.
There was an 82% reduction in Micrococcus luteus bioaerosol, a 96% reduction in
Pseudomonas aeruginosa bioaerosol, and a 44% reduction in Staphylococcus aureus
bioaerosol following 10 minutes of exposure to Thieves™ that was diffused for a
given amount of time.
Demonstrating antimocrobial action of Lemon
Essential Oil on selected food-borne bacteria, there was a 67% reduction of
Staphylococcus aureus when 1000 µliters of lemon oil were added to a liter of
skim milk.
Essential oils of Cinnamon and
Clove showed strong inhibition of
bacteria when tested for the possibility of creating a protective atmosphere by
using natural compounds that could extend the shelf life of packaged foodstuffs.
The oils were tested against Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus,
Enterococcus faecalis, Listeria monocytogenes, Escherichia coli, Yersinia
enterocolitica, Salmonella choleraesuis, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
